Frequently Asked Questions - Elevator trucks

Q - WHAT IS AN ELEVATOR TRUCK?
A - An elevator truck also known as a ladder truck is a multi-use vehicle used for lifting equipment, furniture and mechanical items to high places such as rooftops, balconies, offices and apartments. They can reach the 1st floor to the 27th floor or up to 70 meters high. Elevator Trucks have been in use in Europe and Asia for over 30 years.

Q - HOW DOES IT WORK?
A - The elevator truck sets up at a slight angle to the building and telescopes to the proper working height. The boom wheels on the mast are rested slightly against the building, window opening or balcony. The carrier basket is loaded at the bottom and sent to the top where it is safely unloaded from the building side.

Q - HOW MUCH CAN I LIFT?
A
- A maximum of 400 kg or 880 lbs on each load.

Q - WHAT CAN I LIFT?
A
- Virtually anything that fits on the basket; if the basket is not big enough it can unfolded to make it flat. Drywall, appliances, construction waste and materials, pianos, filing cabinets the list is endless. If you need to move specific items we can arrange for specific equipment to lift solar panels, glass and other fragile or odd shapes.

Q - WHAT SIZE OF TRUCK DO I NEED?
A
- We will consider all of your requirements and suggest the best model. If you are looking for a safer and more efficient way to move materials, call for a free consultation or demonstration.

Q - WHAT IF I ALREADY HAVE A TRUCK?
A
- We can supply the lifting elevator and ladder assemblies separately and make sure it will fit on your truck. Our engineers will confirm that your truck will be able to utilize the specific unit you order.  We can arrange leasing and mounting if you require.

Q - WHAT SIZE OF TRUCKS ARE NEEDED?
A
- Depending on the size of ladder unit, suitable trucks range from a F350 (1 ton) 6 story unit to a tandem truck with a 70 meter (27 story) unit.

Q - DO I NEED A SPECIALLY TRAINED OPERATOR?
A
- There are no qualifications for ladder truck operators other than basic set up and operating procedures. Depending on the size of the truck, your operator may need a class 3 or 1 driver’s license.  We will train up to 4 operators at no charge with each purchase of a ladder unit. We will continue to offer operator courses on a regular basis as well as refresher courses either at your facility or ours and we are available for consulting on projects as well.

Q - CAN AN ELEVATOR TRUCK BE USED AS A REVENUE GENERATOR OR SMALL BUSINESS?
A - Yes, just as a crane goes out on an hourly rental or a tow truck charges by piecework you can operate a viable business with hourly rates from $135 per hour and up.
